Beelitz Heilstaetten used to be a sanatorium by the Berlin workers' health insurance corporation,

built in 1898 but became a military hospital of the Imperial German Army during World War I. Later in 1945, it was occupied by Soviet forces to become a military hospital for them until 1995. Parts of the complex are still in use as a neurological rehabilitation center but the rest was abandoned in 2000. So until now, that complex is gone to seed, becoming very attractive to visitors and photographers that are fascinated how mother nature claims back her territory. 1000 of phots where taken there before, most of the time in a very gothic look, so I wanted to produce a photoseries that somehow tells a more "positive" story on dead. My boy sascha and me took the photos.
It tells the story of a ghost couple, a soldier and a nurse that met there during the wartimes, and their story repeats itself for eternity...
I added a german poem to the picture, written by Arno Holz (1863-1929) hope you like it.
And that's how we strayed through the deep woods...:
